  16.      SKOKIE, Ill., -- January 9, 1996 -- The Corporate/Systems Division of 
  17.      U.S. Robotics (NASDAQ: USRX) today announced its first Courier 
  18.      products for the Macintosh market.  Available in March, these products 
  19.      will bring the high-performance features of the Courier V.Everything 
  20.      and the Courier I-Modem to Macintosh users, making it easy for them to 
  21.      enjoy the most compatible modem available in packages designed for 
  22.      their environment.

  24.      Courier products are currently used in many Macintosh applications. 
  25.      Courier's excellent performance, proven record of compatibility, and 
  26.      "bulletproof" reliability are key for people who rely on 
  27.      communications as an integral part of business -- graphic designers 
  28.      and service bureaus, for example, who need to be able to send and 
  29.      receive graphics-intensive data reliably.  Now Macintosh owners can 
  30.      take advantage of Courier products designed specifically for the Mac.

  33.      director of product management for U.S. Robotics' Corporate/ Systems 
  34.      Division.  "We already have a strong following for Courier products 
  35.      among Macintosh owners, so the Mac market is important to us.  These 
  36.      new products should help us expand our presence in this market, 
  37.      bringing Macintosh owners a new alternative for connecting their Macs 
  38.      to analog or ISDN services."

  40.      The company will bring to market two Courier products for Macintosh 
  41.      owners:

  43.      o Courier V.Everything for Macintosh  External device, list price $595
  44.      
  45.      Based on the award-winning V.Everything technology, offered only by 
  46.      U.S. Robotics, this product includes V.34, for speeds up to 33.6 Kbps, 
  47.      plus backward compatibility with standards and proprietary  protocols. 
  48.      The product provides seamless connectivity, proven compatibility and 
  49.      reliability.

  51.      o Courier I-Modem for Macintosh  External device, list price $895

  53.      Designed for both ISDN and analog applications, the Courier I-Modem 
  54.      for Macintosh is an ISDN terminal adapter that includes an integral 
  55.      modem with all the features of the analog V.Everything product.  Its 
  56.      Universal Connect feature automatically identifies the equipment on 
  57.      the remote end of the connection and transparently makes the highest 
  58.      speed ISDN or analog connection possible.  The product must be 
  59.      physically connected to ISDN services.

  61.      The Courier I-Modem for Macintosh is the first product to offer Mac 
  62.      users the flexibility to connect to both ISDN and analog devices.  
  63.      Although ISDN may be used in applications such as telecommuting and 
  64.      Internet access, the vast majority of applications, such as fax, 
  65.      service bureaus, online services and many others, are still analog.  
  66.      By including both analog and ISDN technology, the Courier I-Modem for 
  67.      Macintosh offers the most flexible solution available for Mac owners 
  68.      who want the speed of ISDN but don't want to sacrifice connectivity to 
  69.      the majority of installed equipment.  The Courier I-Modem for 
  70.      Macintosh also includes an analog device port, allowing owners to 
  71.      attach a phone or fax machine for use over the second ISDN 
  72.      "B-channel."

  74.      Both products will be bundled with a Macintosh hardware flow control 
  75.      cable, and with MacComCenter fax and data software for the Mac.  
  76.      Additionally, the I-Modem comes with Mac "easy install" configuration 
  77.      software, to simply and easily configure the product for ISDN 
  78.      circuits.  The products are both Flash ROM-based -- Macintosh owners 
  79.      can easily upgrade the products with a simple software download file 
  80.      that runs on the Mac.
